The better Bertman’s

wpid-20121025_182528.jpgBertman’s may be best known for its ballpark style mustard,  but I think their best product is their Horseradish Sauce.  Reminiscent of Horsey Sauce for adults this creamy condiment has the perfect bite to it.  It goes equally well on a roast beef and white cheddar sandwich, or along side ketchup on some Nathan’s hotdogs.

So far the only place I’ve found it is Discount Drug Mart so I keep a stock of it in my pantry.

The Swamp Thing

wpid-20140616_121227.jpg

One of the daily specials at Local Tavern was this Whiskey Peppercorn Burger with Swiss cheese and bacon.   sounded too good to resist.  Though it did say “You may need a fork for this one” it did not point the reason.  The reason said fork was required is because the entire thing floated upon a pool of peppercorn sauce like a BP tanker upon an oil spill.

Was it tasty?  Yes.

Would I ever get it again?  No!

Call me a purist, but a sandwich is meant to be eaten like a sandwich, and a cheeseburger like a cheeseburger.  Not cut up and forked

Father’s Day 2014

wpid-picshop-9e8d8380caffae70eaf8d2f911939edf.png

While I am far from being a fan of petty holidays such as Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Sweetest’s Day or even Columbus Day, I must admit that my I had fun with my 13 year old son today.  By the grace of fluke luck Father’s Day fell on my weekend with him this year, so we made a weekend event out of being bums, eating out, ordering in, video games and going to the movies.

Of special note was his choice to “take me” to Moe’s Southwest Grill before the movie today.  I love Moe’s and though some may argue consider it vastly superior to Chipotle or even Qdoba.  To each their own, but Moe’s hits the spot for me.

Now Tex/Mex is not typically found on a baconcentric blog, but Moe’s has bacon.  Yes, that’s right, bacon.  And this drove me to the pictured concoction.  I like to call it the Chicken Philly Stack w/Bacon, but you can call it what you want.  It contains chicken, seasoned rice, sauteed green peppers, mushrooms and onions, cheese, sour cream, queso, cheese and bacon.  When you ask for bacon they point out that it costs extra.  When I point out that bacon is worth it they proceed to dump a fist full of bacony goodness into my Stack.

The Stack is a Moe’s specialty and I like to think I was part of having this limited time treat added to the regular menu.  You had best rely on Moe’s to describe though as my definition of “Quesedila double taco burrito stuffed with goodness” has much to be desired.

Lasagna ala Frankie’s

wpid-2012-05-11_21-40-38_993.jpg

One of my favorite bacon-free foods is lasagna, and my favorite lasagna comes from Frankie’s Italian Cuisine. So much cheese covering lasagna noodles drowning in their house made meat sauce. So good you won’t even miss the bacon.

The only downside is that they try to serve salad with practically everything. Why ruin such a sumptuous experience with a plate of lawn clippings?

Canary Bacon

wpid-20140614_172244.jpg

Canary’s is a locally owned family restaurant with an incredibly friendly staff. It has quickly become one of my son’s favorite eateries, and I can’t say I mind. The menu includes “Our Special Burger” which is a half pound Patty of ground round. Ordered here without lettuce and I like to top it with Thousand Island dressing.

Bacon in Eggs

Any omelet with bacon and cheese is a good omelet. Especially when drizzled with chipotle sauce.

But why stop there? Kayla put together this beast yesterday with bacon, sausage, potatoes and cheese, also drizzled with chipotle sauce.

Stuff It!

wpid-20140429_120840.jpg

Local Tavern called this a stuffed cheeseburger.  Claimed it was a cheeseburger stuffed with macaroni and cheese, to be exact.  What it was, however, was a large beef patty, topped with a helping of creamy macaroni and cheese and then covered with a second beef patty, cheese and bacon.  An easy 2/3 pounds of beef on this beast.  The combination of cheeses made it very tasty, and I refused to leave a single bite behind.

Lindsey was our waitress on this Tuesday afternoon, and she’s easily one of my favorites there.

It’s a Wing Thing

wpid-20130626_192329.jpg

Only in America do the chicken have fingers and the buffalo have wings. And when talking Buffalo Wings, Chet & Matt’s Pizza serves up some seriously good ones. Big wings, full of meat and in a variety of flavors including the above pictured Hot Garlic Parmesan or the huge BBQ wings below.
