I used to work at a wildlife center in college, housing mostly ostriches & deer (including a cloned deer! https://t.co/q5gYU9r0kq ) I liked to volunteer to do evening feeds in summer & holidays.

One pen had 3 deer & 2 emus, and 1 of the deer had facial paralysis from running into fences so you had to stay in the pen to make sure the emus wouldn't chase him off from his food since he ate slow. It was my favorite pen.

I hate wearing shorts so I'd feed in jeans, even in summer. Unfortunately one day I stepped in a fire ant nest. I screamed & ripped off my jeans, running into the exam barn. Jeans filled with ants. All alone on one side of the center.

We always fed in pairs, but one person took deer & other took ostriches, which were WAY far away. So I was screaming HELP out the barn, too scared of ants to put jeans back on. Then, my pants buzz.

I pull my phone out of my pocket & Scott's on the line, asking me if everything was okay. "NO. HOW DID YOU KNOW." "I dunno, I got a weird feeling?" I explained everything that happened and begged for more pants.

Scott came to my rescue with a pair of shorts, my leg was stung to hell by the fire ants, and I got a great story out of it. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
