That’s Nacho Brunch!

wpid-20140909_090352_heisley-rd.jpg.jpegIf there is one thing you can always count on, it’s Kayla’s culinary creativity.  Having already perfected the Breakfast Burrito and created a Desert Breakfast, she moved on to something new.  What she calls “Breakfast Nachos”, which are far more of a brunch for two.  They would make a perfect match to a quiet Sunday and a pitcher of Bloody Mary.  So much so in fact I could almost taste the Bloody Mary while I devoured them.  Complete with bacon, sausage, egg, cheese, and a hash brown garnish served over fried  tortilla chips, there is enough food here to summon a food coma from the perkiest of patrons.  The combination of Chipotle sauce and hot sauce liven it all up nicely and increase the suggestion that a Bloody Mary should be included.

Now I just wonder how she does with a Bloody Mary…….

Why Start the Day with Breakfast?

When you can start it with dessert?

wpid-20140808_083225.jpgThis had to be what was going through Kayla’s mind when she came up with this sweet concoction.  First she makes French Toast, but not just any French Toast.  Oh no, she make French Vanilla French Toast, and that’s just the base.  Then she tops this with a hearty glop of sweet strawberries, a dollop of whipped cream, and a drizzle of honey.

Estimated calorie content:  Astronomical!

When I finished this “breakfast” I was both pleasantly stuffed and on a sugar high for hours.  Luckily she doesn’t make this combination often or I would be fatter than I already am.

Breakfast Wrap Done Right!

wpid-2014-07-25-08.43.57.png.pngBreakfast Wrap, Breakfast Burrito, call it what you will.  What matters is that when Kayla wraps your breakfast in these over sized flour tortillas the result is instantly addictive.

Kayla puts the perfect mix of bacon, sausage, cheese and eggs together with a chipotle sauce  before masterfully wrapping it all up and cutting it into the too taste explosions you see above.  Others can make them, but they do not compare.  Sadly, the flour tortillas aren’t regularly stocked, but I’m hoping to change that.

A Double D Breakfast

wpid-wp-1404061611228.jpeg

Turns out Dunkin Donuts is no longer just for coffee and donuts. Took my son there for breakfast and while he gorged himself on donuts I decided to try something new.

While browsing the breakfast board the Big and Toasted caught my eye. Basically a grilled cheese sandwich made with Texas toast and including bacon and eggs.

It was also available as a “combo” which included a side of oven baked hash browns, which were also surprisingly good. Add on a large iced tea (I love their iced tea!) and this was a really impressive breakfast. So good, in fact, that I am looking forward to trying more of their DDelicious offerings.

Double Bacon Slamburger

wpid-20140628_195814.jpg

On our way home from the movie theater my son decided we should stop at the local Denny’s for dinner.  He’s a big fan of the Build Your Own Junior Grand Slam because he can replace eggs with a second helping of bacon.

I didn’t mind the idea so to Denny’s we went.  Just so happens I was wearing the “Born To Eat Bacon” shirt that my son had made for me months before I started this site.  It was quite a hit with the staff.  Upon walking in the hostess asked if I was looking for bacon.  “I always am” I replied.  “Me too!” she said, smiling.

I’ve had various bacon burgers at Denny’s in the past, but tonight I tried the Bacon Slam Burger.  Damned glad I did too.  This burger takes the “breakfast burger” concept to a whole new level by including crispy hash browns along with bacon and eggs.  For a dollar up-charge I got extra bacon to make it extra good.

Now this is easily one of the messiest burgers I’ve had lately, with the egg and queso fighting to drip off, but it is well worth it.  I loved the combination of flavors and will definitely have it again. Our server, Jessica, was friendly and attentive and the hostess was really nice.  I know many look down on Denny’s, and admittedly I once did as well, but our experience was easily on par with an Applebee’s, Max & Erma’s or TGI Fridays.  Maybe we are just blessed with an uncharacteristically pleasant Denny’s?  Well put your prejudice aside and stop in for a Bacon Slam Burger. They just might surprise you.

Kayla Gets Creative

wpid-20140624_08305001.jpg.jpeg

Kayla was forced to get creative this morning as they only had mini flour tortillas instead of the normal huge ones. To her credit she took to the challenge like an Iron Breakfast Chef and soon came up with this pair of Southwest Chipotle Breakfast Tacos, one with bacon and the other sausage.

Both were quite tasty, but the sausage was slightly better than the bacon. I know, this is the wrong blog to be saying such things, but it was.

Bacon in Eggs

Any omelet with bacon and cheese is a good omelet. Especially when drizzled with chipotle sauce.

But why stop there? Kayla put together this beast yesterday with bacon, sausage, potatoes and cheese, also drizzled with chipotle sauce.
